I’ve had this conversation with several other Coaches and there’s a common thread that I’m just gonna go ahead and say out loud now.
There are exceptions, but the coaching industry has turned into a giant rat race.
Nobody else is really talking publicly about this, but it’s just time to call a spade a spade.
You know that scene from World War Z, where all those zombies rushed that wall on autopilot, climbing over each other to get to the top?
That’s what the industry started to feel like to me. And it’s gross.
I jumped out of 9-5 (and so did you) because it felt like a hamster wheel that crushed my soul, only to find myself in a pressurized sea of people who were scrambling to peddle things and concepts that were TOTALLY out of integrity.
Does the following sound familiar?
Make a Facebook group
Then create engagement
Post about zone of genius or alignment or mindset or manifesting 187 times a week, and hurry hurry don’t forget to comment back.
You have 12 days of experience, now you’re an expert?
Here’s a template for this, here’s a work book for this, here’s PDF for that, here’s a free training for this (that’s not really free because there’s an agenda behind it).
Add some pressure.
Then add some more.
Here’s a 5 Day Training for your next blah blah blah, here’s how to have your first 10k month.
Here’s a pristine graphic with a pristine logo on it. Oh look there you are smiling on the coast of Zimbabwe or wherever that is, calling yourself The King or Queen of Instagram.
Have we talked about your pain points yet? How about the CTA?
All of that destroys the freedom you opted into entrepreneurship for to begin with.
Here’s the thing-
In the beginning, yes the structure will serve you. It totally got things off the ground for me too.
Yes, the guidelines will help you.
Absolutely, following in the footsteps and learning from other people’s success will get you far.
Do it. 100%
If you stop paying attention, it’s going to turn into a rat race.
There comes a time when you will realize that the thing you so beautifully created to allow you your freedom, will feel like a cage.
Because you will OUT GROW IT.
Rat races happen when too many people aren’t genuinely growing from a place of integrity.
I had to take a good, honest look at myself and notice that for about 4 months or so, I had been out of integrity in places too.
So I’ve spent the last couple of months reorganizing everything about my business so that it feels good to me again.
I’m not following “rules” anymore.
Did you notice how my content shifted pretty dramatically around August/September? Now you know why.
I closed my Facebook group.
I’ve un-followed everyone else’s Facebook group.
I got back to my roots.
I stopped compartmentalizing.
I full blast owned my unique gifts and the things that make me ME.
I call bullshit way more often.
I reconnected to Source more deeply than ever.
And surprise surprise, as a result my clients get much more powerful support.
The rat race is out of my reality now.
I don’t really have an agenda behind this post except to call out what I saw and tell you that what you probably felt yourself as a coach was right.
As an Intuitive, there were things that I was seeing inside the collective that did not sit well with me. And as an Empath, when I feel lack of integrity I get really squirrely.
So that icky feeling you’ve been feeling about the industry?
It’s right on. The disconnect is real. The bullshit is there.
So what do you do now?
This is your chance to play by your own rules. Create your own way. Get back to your roots. Get REALLY honest about what you’re doing and why you were put on this planet.
Chances are, the coaching industry was holding you back in some way because parts of it are not REALLY you. You felt that, and can’t move forward until you take your power back.
So, Entrepreneur – at the risk of sounding really f*cking cliche – start shining YOUR light and stop simply reflecting a dimmed version of it by subscribing to what other people tell you is the right way.
Take what you’ve learned and go be the REAL architect of your life. That’s what we all wanted when we jumped the 9-5 ship the first time anyway, right?
In order to say bye to the rat race, you gotta go get real about your FULL potential.
Whether you are a fellow coach, entrepreneur, or still in your 9-5 and just have a passion for the industry I’d love to hear your thoughts on conversations like these. Come join the conversation on Instagram or on my Facebook page.
Can’t Wait to hear from you, Brooke
