Hi!

First of all, there are many Archetypes, and as far as I know, there is no real literature on what I call The Bridge.

You can’t Google it. Carl Jung didn’t mention this because I believe we either weren’t around back then, we were mislabeled as other Archetypes or we just hadn’t been around long enough in the population to merit studying.

I have many case studies from clients, friends and colleagues who have related to the information I’m about to share with you.

What I’m sharing is a culmination of my personal experience (I am a Bridge) and collected information I’ve gathered through testimony and observation.

Bridge Formation:

First of all, what does an actual bridge do? It’s a thing that is built to connect two sides of something. It doesn’t merge the sides, it connects them.

Important to remember….

Now- The world, human beings and the cosmos demonstrate polarity. We experience this as duality.

Left brain / Right brain

Order / Chaos

Creative energy / Destructive energy

Hero / Villain

Masculine energy / Feminine energy

Linear thinking / spherical thinking

Physical / Nonphysical

Potential energy / Matter

Yin / Yang

These are all naturally occurring. Without an imposed judgement (good vs bad) the duality is not meant to be seen as “separate,” or “unified” even- the duality is meant to be held both autonomously AND together at the same time. Meaning, for example, there is no actual need to be either creative or destructive but both/and.

The ability to bridge two poles together comes from, you guessed it- a third entity.

In this case, that third entity is consciousness. Or awareness. The Neutral Observer. The witness. Call it what you like.

It’s the Observer that SEES the duality.

If we were truly dual natured only, you wouldn’t be able to observe from a third stance/witness state at all.

See that?

That part of you that is capable of saying “I notice I am sometimes ordered and sometimes chaotic? That’s your ability to be in a third point of view.

This is, in my opinion, why the Holy Trinity is based on. If you consider the Trinity non-religious, it’s just literally the next step up from duality.

We’ve moved from unity consciousness (many ancient civilizations operated from this level) to duality. And now here we are, transitioning to trinity.

The Bridge Archetype lives in, perceives from and experiences through the BOTH/AND.

And they are meant to bridge gaps for others and show the world how to resolve seeming opposites and paradoxes.

Bridge Characteristics:

•Naturally occurring high performance & genius level intelligence

Bridged with

•An innate affinity for the arts, creativity, high emotional intelligence

•Devotion to Science

Bridged with

•Devotion to Spirituality

Both left brain and right brain, not identifying with either, able to be with and between both worlds simultaneously, with no effort and without need to pause or transition

Have you felt that you’ve been bridging seeming paradoxes, seemingly conflicting worlds? (high achieving 4.0 academic AND soul based, financial prowess AND creativity AND insane sex appeal for example)

You might be a Bridge then. ☺️

Insanely smart with a long list of academic achievement or qualifications, and you’re also grounded in a deeply spiritual relationship with Life.

You can be very logical and also full of whimsy and childlike wonder in the same instant.

You likely were labeled a Genius or Child Prodigy very early on. (Bridges tend to present left brained first)

You were likely doing things (walking, talking, writing) at a highly accelerated level for a child.

And also- as an adult you either find yourself frustrated that you aren’t fully expressing the myriad of aspects of Being human (the Semi-Actualized Bridge) or you are thriving because you are (Actualized Bridge.)

Academic, intuitive, creative, successful, a powerhouse of variety while also maintaining playfulness, ease and childlike wonder.

A Bridge is all of these things, yet identifies with none because it all literally comes naturally.

It doesn’t occur to an Actualized Bridge to identify with things that just feel as natural as blinking or breathing.

In the Semi-Actualized phase, Bridges believe they have to pick sides or spend a lot of time fighting themselves or the misunderstanding they get from others.

Additional Characteristics:

Bridges may preset as a Rebel, but don’t fit into that stereotype because the kind of Rebellion a Bridge does is more immaculate, not messy. It’s more precise and intricately lived out through consistent improvement. (Again, they’re both ordered and chaotic)

Bridges evolve at a rate that is almost impossible to keep up with. They often find themselves upgrading perspectives daily.

The only mold a Bridge seems to fit into is one that constantly breaks and sheds itself.

They are not left or right brained…they’re a rare gem because they ARE EQUALLY BOTH. And something else at the same time.

There is no switching gears, it’s simply a natural way of being.

Picked up on the fact that I completely placed out of my first year at Vanderbilt, overachiever since I could talk, have a Masters, do all the academic/left brain things….and I also studied under Shamans, talk to trees and see energy?

Typical Bridge. 🤣

And a Bridge is hell fire about being everything without being placed in a box.

When someone tries to put a projection of Left Brain on me (like, see me as overly strategic or only academic) I will surge up and demand they take that stereotype right off.

When someone assumes I’m all Love and Light just because I use the term “spiritual” or tries to project Right Brain bias on me, again- I demand they take that stereotype off too. I want to gag. 🤣 It’s not accurate.

In the exact same way that our brain has two hemispheres that work together via a third entity that bridges them…. (corpus callosum)

A Bridge IS the link between two of anything.

•A note on Purpose:

This archetype is about bridging our internal landscape, the hemispheres or our brain, Feminine/Masculine, Sex/God, Being/Doing, Secular/Spiritual, Business/Art, Earth/Outer space, Yin/Yang, Within/Without, Above/Below

We bridge the seemingly contrasting versions of the world in order to create a new, brighter, better one.

It’s the next wave in evolution.

🔥

Do you relate?

How do you feel after reading this?

I’d love to know.

Please share with anyone who needs this.

The Bridge Archetype

July 9, 2020

  1. Kt says:

I feel that I’m a bridge but I’m at a point where I feel like I’m fighting the two. I’m an artist and my teachers keep telling me to stick with one aesthetic and style because that’s more marketable but I’m not one thing and I’m stuck.

  2. Woah!!!! I have been hearing call to know I am expressing as a bridge. So I did some googling. Thank you for writing this. This is my expression almost to a tea. If say semi actualized fast transitioning.

  3. Nyleve says:

Absolutely relate. I have been studying archetypal energy more deeply recently and began to see other’ archetypes One being the Bridge or in my case “the log”. Thank you.

  4. Kim says:

A Bridge just turned up in my cards. I am a Bridge as you describe – told to study science and keep art as a hobby because I could do both. But science got me into a box and just doing art making is too right brained for me. I have been trying to manage the two worlds simultaneously and after an MBA and MA in Counselling Psychology, certification as a yoga teacher and an equine assisted psychotherapist, horse rider and trainer, training in shamanism, writing as a poet, artist, it is taking a long time to consolidate my learnings and bring things together. I am off on another quest, I feel, very soon but it is important to me, for some reason, to explore all these areas and work in them – I feel everything will come together at some point.

  5. What a refreshing deep dive into this archetype. As a long time student of Jung and therapist myself I was surprised I hadn’t really come across it. It showed up in the Wild Unknown Archetypes deck in a reading and it felt incomplete. Reading this I felt a familiar floaty grounded feeling, a resonance in my body and soul. Thank you!!!🙏
