I took this picture on my second trip to Ireland. A trip I thought was about me starting a relationship with someone I, for a time, thought was my soul mate. What I actually found on that trip was a different kind of soul mate: travel.

I’ve started to believe that it’s not just people who can be soul mates…it’s experiences, dreams and visions that can be our soul mates too. Places we’re called to, landscapes that open us up to immense spaces of joy in our heart, dreams we’re meant to fulfill, adventures that almost seemed to have been calling out to us our whole life. The feeling I get when I travel to places I love is a feeling that’s, so far, only been matched by feelings I’ve had for one or two people, if I’m really honest. This year, I look forward to meeting more experiences that fill me with light and joy and love and adventure. .

So this trip did connect me to the thing I was looking for…it just wasn’t the thing I was expecting.

Sometimes you go looking for a Soul Mate in someone else and realize that there are hundreds of them out there in the world, like this place, patiently waiting for you to come find them.
